About Us

In 1983, while on a backpacking trip, Raz Rasmussen and Steve Backstrom hatched a plan to raise llamas and offer pack trips into the Wallowas. Within a few years we were up and running. The learning curve was steep and arduous. We explored new routes, camps and day hikes. We tried out recipes in a folding oven in the backcountry and ate our mistakes.

 


In 1991 we were joined by Louise Antaya who became Louise Antaya Rasmussen and head cook. It is her many hours in the kitchen before a trip goes out that makes the meals an exquisite dining experience. She is aided by the use of organic produce from our garden and orchard.

 


In 1998 we were joined by Devin Rasmussen who occasionally helps out while learning from his big sister Myra.
